Adventures

Flickr Link: Lost

Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat.
'I don't much care where--' said Alice.
'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.
'--so long as I get SOMEWHERE,' Alice added as an explanation.
'Oh, you're sure to do that,' said the Cat, `if you only walk long enough.'

Chasing Light 7.0

My sister and I went to the Chasing Light 7.0 Landscape Photography Workshop last weekend.

It was a great experience! We learned a lot regarding the technical aspects of landscape photography, met new friends, but most importantly, we left the workshop inspired by the lecturers' love of landscape photography. They have true passion and it shows in the powerful images that they have produced.

Here are more details about their workshop as well as their personal image galleries:

While in the Philippines, I decided to take a photography workshop with the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF). I must say I enjoyed the workshop a lot. I not only learned technical aspects of photography and composition, I also left the workshop inspired by the lecturers.

And the class was a fun bunch!

Here are some photos I took during the first day of the workshop.

Manny Pacquiao

[2]Flickr Link:

These photos were taken the day Manny Pacquiao arrived in Manila after his fight with Cotto in Las Vegas. His motorcade passed right in front of my sister's office building. I did not bring my dslr but was able to borrow a point and shoot camera.

I do not know much about Pacquiao. So, I grabbed the information below from Wikipedia.

Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao (pronounced /ˈpækjaʊ/, /pa'kjaw/ in Cebuano and Tagalog, also in Bikol; born December 17, 1978), more commonly known as Manny Pacquiao, is a Filipino professional boxer.

He is currently the WBO welterweight world champion, IBO and Ring Magazine light welterweight champion, and is rated by Ring Magazine as the #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

He is also the former WBC lightweight world champion, WBC super featherweight world champion, IBF super bantamweight world champion, and WBC flyweight world champion. Furthermore, he is the former Ring Magazine featherweight and super featherweight champion.

The Filipino boxing superstar is the first boxer to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions. In addition, he is the only boxer to win the lineal championship ("the man who beat the man") in four different weight classes.

I haven't been good at posting to my blog lately... I've been taking a lot of photos this summer. It's just that it takes a while for me to load and review them on my computer.

Here are a few I took back in September with my friend Ji. It's actually in the same train station where the bench photo from the last post was taken from.

Last Day Today

Today is my last day at work. As I mentioned in my a post from last month (Outsourced), several positions in the company I am working for will be outsourced to Ireland.

I was browsing through my photos and I came across a photo I took of a train station bench. I noticed the word "World" and took a closer look. It said,

Worlds the limit if you take advantage

And of course, now I have to be better at conserving cash too! ;)

My cousin Maricar and I met up last Friday to take photos and have some drinks afterwards. It was raining when we met up after work but we still tried to take photos of the Wrigley Building. We took these shots from Wacker Drive on Wabash Ave.

Then, we decided to head over by Foster Avenue Beach to take some shots of the lake in the fog.

My friend and I went to the Chicago Full Moon Fire Jam by Pyrotechniq, which is a fire and performance art troupe based in Chicago and Iowa.

It was my first time trying to shoot something like this. I'm not really happy with the shots I've taken but thought I'd share in case you have any suggestions on what I can do next time to improve my shots. :)

There's one more scheduled for November. I think I will go again :)

Add an "IRELAND" sticker to the suitcase, please!

[4]Flickr Link: God Bless America

For almost a year and a half I have been working at 401 North Michigan Avenue. It is also called the Pioneer Plaza.

Right on Pioneer Plaza is the "God Bless America" by sculptor J. Seward Johnson.

I like it. "Oh, the American Gothic in 3D..." I said to myself when I first saw it. My friend told me that he had read something about the sculpture having a deeper meaning as signified by the suitcase with stickers but I really didn't look it up. So since it was installed, I pass by this sculpture as I go to my secure and comfortable job.

On Monday, October 5, my secure and comfortable job is no more. That morning, we went into a department meeting and found out that our jobs are being outsourced to Ireland. There was shock all around. Nobody can believe what they had just heard.

Being into photography, I occasionally bring my camera to work. That day I just happened to have it with me. So, after the meeting, I told my friend that I want to document this day.

So anyway, we walked around the plaza and I took my photos. As I was taking photos of the God Bless America sculpture, I asked my friend again if he remembered what the suitcase meant.

He said, "Outsourcing".

Perfect.

This is my friends' daughter, Maria. She is such an adorable little baby! So goood!

I wish I took more photos of her but I was so distracted that my SB-900 is stuck in the hot shoe of my camera. So, I just created 2 versions of the same photo.

Let me know what you think! :)
