Love is in the (Cold) Air

Flickr Link: Couple at Millenium Park

This is yet another photo from the 50mm Meetup Challenge. Despite the cold, there were still a number of people out. There are several couples that were kind enough to stop and allow us to take their photos.

You Shoot Me, I Shoot You!

Another photo taken during the 50mm Meetup Challenge.

I was shooting the guy in the foreground when I noticed a fellow meetup member shooting me.

Hello, Hello Kitty Hat Girl!

Flickr Link: Hello, Hello Kitty!

Fine. I admit. Lame title. Haha!

Anyways....

I joined a few photography groups in Meetup.com when I first got my camera. I believe that was the greatest thing I did to push me to take more photos. Organizers of the meetup groups I joined set up events and workshops that encourage people to shoot more and interact and learn through each other.

This photo was taken during one of those meetups back during the winter. It was a "50mm Challenge Meetup" where we were given a list of things to capture with our focal length constantly at 50mm.

No Lifeguard On Duty

Flickr Link: No Lifeguard On Duty

It was one of those rare spring days this year when the weather was comfortable. So I together with my friends, Bea and Rounald headed off to the beach by the Gross Point Lighthouse for a practice shoot.

Here's one taken when Rounald was teaching me about using the flash.

Baha'i Temple

Flickr Link: Baha'i Temple

The Baha'i Temple in Wilmette is so stunning and peaceful. It is surrounded by gardens and has a great view of Lake Michigan. Mr. M and I love to bike here during the summer and just take in the scenery (or take photos!).

I do not know much about the Baha'i faith, but if anyone is interested, here is a link to more information about them: http://www.bahai.us/about-bahai

Gong Hei Fat Choi

Chinese New Year Dragon

Flickr Link: When I grow up...

This is another photo from the Chinese New Year Parade.

The Chinese believe that the dragon or lion dancing aggressively to the loud beats of the drums and cymbals scare bad or evil spirits away.

Gong hei fat choi loosely translates to "Congratulations and be prosperous". This is the common greeting used during Chinese New Year.

Lillian

Flickr Link: Lillian

This photo was taken during the Chinese New Year Parade in Chicago last February. There were so many people out that day despite the weather being bitter cold.

Lillian is my friend's daughter. She was excited to see the dragons. She is such a trooper.

When I grow up, I want to be like her ;)

Boracay, Philippines

Flickr Link: Boracay, Philippines

Mario and I went on a short trip in 2008 to the Philippines. We spent 4 days in Boracay. The island is beautiful and the people are so warm and friendly.

Here is a photo taken from our hotel on the beachfront.

Chained Down and Boxed In

Flickr Link: Chained down and Boxed In

George Carlin is the man. Not only is he a great comedian, he is also very insightful man. He has balls to express his views and tackle issues that people usually stay away from. Watching his routines not only make me laugh but also make me look back and reflect on the issues he presented.

Here is a part of his "Religion is Bullshit" segment in his 1999 HBO live broadcast stand-up special, "You Are All Diseased"

When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

Amen, George. Amen.

Wrigley Building, Chicago

Flickr Link: Chicago After Work

I work in downtown Chicago and I absolutely love it! The city is just so beautiful and there's always something to do.

Anyway, here is a photo I took last year when I was walking to the train station on my way home.
